January Home Reset Plan: Organize Your Whole House in 4 Weeks
January is the natural time for a fresh start at home: the holidays leave extra stuff behind, and a new year makes change feel possible. But trying to organize the whole house in one weekend usually ends in burnout.
This plan spreads it over four weeks. Each week has one zone, and you spend about 15 minutes a day on it. By February, every main area of your home has had a reset.

The 4-week plan
| Week | Zone | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kitchen | Pantry, fridge, counters, cabinets |
| 2 | Bedrooms | Closets, drawers, nightstands, under the bed |
| 3 | Bathrooms | Cabinets, counters, linen closet |
| 4 | Living areas | Living room, entryway, paperwork |
Every day: 15 minutes on that week's zone. Every Sunday: take donations to the car and drop them off.
Week 1: Kitchen
- Day 1–2: Fridge and freezer — toss expired food, wipe the shelves
- Day 3–4: Pantry — group by category (see our pantry organization ideas)
- Day 5: Counters — keep only what you use daily
- Day 6: One cabinet or drawer — mugs, containers or utensils
- Day 7: Under the sink (see under-sink organization)
Week 2: Bedrooms
- Day 1–2: Closet — remove what you don't wear (see small closet organization)
- Day 3: Dresser drawers
- Day 4: Nightstands
- Day 5: Under the bed
- Day 6: Kids' rooms — try a toy rotation
- Day 7: Put away holiday gifts so each one has a home
Week 3: Bathrooms
- Day 1–2: Medicine cabinet and toiletries — toss expired products (use a pharmacy take-back program for old medicines where available)
- Day 3: Counter and drawers
- Day 4: Under the sink
- Day 5–6: Linen closet — towels and sheets
- Day 7: A quick 15-minute bathroom clean to finish
Week 4: Living areas and paperwork
- Day 1: Coffee table and side tables
- Day 2: Bookshelves and media
- Day 3: Entryway — set up a drop zone
- Day 4–5: Paperwork — recycle, shred anything with personal details, file the rest
- Day 6: Holiday decorations — pack them away neatly and donate what you didn't use
- Day 7: Final walk-through and celebrate
Tips for a reset that sticks
Don't buy storage first. Declutter, then see what you actually need.
Use a timer. Fifteen minutes is enough to make progress and short enough to keep going all month.
Behind schedule? Just continue from where you are. February works too.
Lock it in. Finish the month with our weekly cleaning schedule and the 10-minute evening reset so the house stays this way.
