Under-Sink Organization Ideas: 6 Organizers That Fit Around Pipes
The cabinet under the sink is one of the hardest spaces to organize: it's deep, it's dark and there's a pipe in the middle of it. Regular shelves don't fit, and things get pushed to the back and forgotten. These six types of organizer are designed to work around plumbing.

Before you buy: empty, check and measure
- Empty the cabinet and wipe it out. Look for signs of a leak — water stains, warping or a musty smell — and fix those first.
- Toss what's empty or expired.
- Measure carefully: the cabinet's width, depth and height, plus the position of the pipes and the space either side of them. Write these down before you shop.
1. Two-tier sliding drawer
Best for: deep cabinets where things get lost at the back.
A pull-out drawer brings everything to you, so the items at the back are as easy to reach as the ones at the front. Two-tier versions use the height of the cabinet. Check that the unit fits to one side of the pipe.
2. Expandable under-sink shelf
Best for: using the full width of the cabinet.
These shelves have adjustable panels or legs that you position around the drain pipe. They create a second level for sponges, refills and cloths without blocking the plumbing.
3. Clear stackable bins
Best for: small items and refills.
Group similar items — dishwasher tablets, sponges, bin bags — into clear bins so you can see when something is running low. Bins with handles are easy to pull out.
4. Over-the-door caddy
Best for: small, light items you grab often.
A caddy that hooks over the cabinet door (or sticks on with adhesive) holds gloves, scrub brushes or small bottles. Check that the door still closes with the caddy in place.
5. Turntable (lazy Susan)
Best for: awkward corners.
Spin to reach the bottle at the back. A turntable with a raised edge stops bottles sliding off.
6. Tension rod
Best for: spray bottles.
Fit a tension rod across the top of the cabinet and hang spray bottles by their triggers. It frees up the whole cabinet floor for bins.
Keep it safe
- Store chemicals safely. If you have young children or pets, fit a cabinet lock, and keep products in their original containers with labels attached.
- Never mix cleaning products — especially bleach with ammonia or vinegar.
- Leave room around the pipes so you can see and reach them if there's a leak. A small tray or mat under the trap catches drips and makes leaks easier to spot.
A simple under-sink layout
| Zone | What goes there |
|---|---|
| Left of the pipe | Sliding drawer with daily cleaning supplies |
| Right of the pipe | Clear bins with refills and backups |
| Top (tension rod) | Spray bottles |
| Door | Gloves and brushes |
